Rethinking and Reforming Doctoral Education in Europe
On the Road to Innovation Union
The article focuses on the reform of doctoral education in Europe in the last five years, as encapsulated in the Salzburg II Recommendations, drawn up by the European University Association’s Council for Doctoral Education and adopted in autumn 2010. It reflects on both the successes and the challenges of the reform in the framework of the Bologna Process. It emphasises the undertaking of original research, presents recommendations for the further improvement of doctoral education, and looks at open questions and remaining obstacles, all in the context of European policy developments, visions and strategies. |
