The Implementation of the Bologna Bachelor
A Comparative National Analysis
This paper compares the implementation of the “Bologna Bachelor” in France, Germany, Hungary, Spain and Sweden. The national data are compared to the European data collected for the Trends 2010 report. The Trends 2010 report emphasised that the Bologna process represented an opportunity for the development of coherent policies that encompass all three degree levels, but that it has been difficult to implement the reforms in the context of an evolving, broader and far-reaching European and national policy agenda. After looking at the European and national contexts, the paper examines the introduction of the new first-cycle degrees, in order to assess the progress of student-centred approaches to learning and the employers’ acceptance of these degrees in the five countries.
