Some Practical Guidance
The increasing encouragement for academic staff to be mobile and move to positions in other European Universities in particular has not been matched by advice on the obstacles that may have to be faced. This article looks at a range of issues arising when considering a move of this sort. Ethical issues about the country one is moving to, academic freedom, governance arrangements in Universities, advice on contractual matters, salary levels and pension matters are all brought under scrutiny and guidelines are offered for those considering a move abroad.
