Purposes and rationales of internationalisation in the Netherlands

The role of Nuffic

This article analyses the purposes and rationales for internationalisation in the Netherlands, and the changing relationships between Nuffic, the national government and the Dutch institutions of higher education. These changing relationships are connected to the changing roles and activities that Nuffic has developed since 1952. These roles are analysed and compared with other likeminded organisations in Europe. Finally, the article attempts to draw some conclusions about the way Nuffic has adapted to the changes in its environment and how it has continuously adapted its mission.
