Towards guidelines for localizing international higher education practices
A Case Study of Transforming a Faculty of Education into a Professional School of Education
While international higher education scholars and practitioners stress the importance of accounting for the local context, no guidelines for localizing practices exist. We inquired which components would such guidelines have, reflecting on our experience consulting University N in Central Asia. University N aspired to transform a faculty of education into a professional school, presenting a convenient platform for developing localization protocols. In this paper, we conceptualize localization of international higher education practices, reflect on designing a professional school, and offer ideas for localization guidelines. This contributes to the discussion about responsible approaches to borrowing practices from abroad.
