Internationalisation of Higher Education in India
Policies, programmes, and performance
The drivers for Internationalisation of higher education may range from more altruistic to more material. Contemporary policies and programmes in India have tended towards the latter. Yet the number of international students in the country has remained low and significantly below the potential of the country. This is so, despite many strong efforts and despite Inda being one of the largest systems of higher education in the world with a competitive cost advantage. It has advanced several initiatives to become a higher education hub for the world, yet without much success. This paper analyses the policies, programmes, and performances of internationalisation of higher education in India in search of ascertaining reasons for the same.for being unable to attract as many international students as it aspires.
