German and international female students’ success rates in Germany’s mechanical and electrical engineering
This work analysed the structural changes through the
Bologna Process and the number of international female
graduates in the STEM elds in Germany. The results show
that in mechanical and electrical engineering elds the
rate of new female entrants in general is far from parity.
Furthermore, the German female students’ success rates
are lower than their male counterparts, but the interna-
tional female students’ success rates are higher than their
male counterparts. This work concludes that increasing
the number of female international students in engineer-
ing programmes will improve labour de cits, and the in-
creased presence of successful international females will
pave the way for German female engineering students.
