A Future Role for U.S. Accreditation in the international Quality Assurance Community
U.S. accreditation has played a significant role in international quality assurance. This has certain advantages and disadvantages. This article suggests that as the international quality assurance community addresses its most urgent issues, in the future U.S. accreditation can play an important role in a robust partnership for leadership. The urgent issues to be addressed by U.S. accreditaton and the quality assurance community include: (1) the future role of virtual communication in higher education and quality assurance, (2) the emergence of alternative providers of higher education and the accompanying expectations for quality assurance, and (3) a critical need for quality assurance to address equity and social justice worldwide.
