The Role of International Advisory Boards in Higher Education Settings
The Häme University of Applied Sciences’ International Advisory Board
This article discusses how to establish an International Advisory Board (IAB) in a university, considers in what kinds of activities an IAB member might be engaged and outlines what the benefits and challenges are of setting up a university IAB. To illustrate these issues, an account is provided of the authors’ experiences about the establishment and main activities of an IAB for Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK) in southern Finland, the mandate of which ran from May 2016 to March 2020. The article also draws on the reflections of two university staff members of IABs in two other Finnish universities, Aalto University and Laurea Applied Science University.
