Internationalisation of Higher Education and Integration of Students
Lessons from the Perceptions of Chinese Students
This article discusses through the case of Chinese degree students how the internationalisation of higher education in Finland has affected international students’ study experiences. It first introduces Finnish higher education internationalisation policy development, especially its recent marketisation. Using qualitative data from semi-structured interviews with Chinese students studying in Finland, the article answers two questions: 1) What are the advantages of Finnish higher education? 2) What areas can be improved in Finnish higher education? The lessons learned from this research serve to encourage policy-makers and practitioners to take a broader view of their higher education internationalisation strategies.
