Internationalisation of Doctoral Education

An Overview of European Developments Over the Last 20 Years

This article describes the role of European and global university exchanges in developing a common framework of doctoral education and how internationalisation is addressed in this context. Based on the work of the EUA Council for Doctoral Education, the evolution of the institutional views and responsibilities is presented through the results of various projects in the field of internationalisation of doctoral education. In addition, various future challenges related to the international dimension of doctoral education are being addressed.
