The 5th Global Survey of the International Association of Universities

This article reports on selected findings of the 5th Global Survey of internationalisation conducted by the International Association of Universities in 2018. 907 HEIs from 126 countries replied to the survey. It explores the survey findings about benefits of internationalisation and issues of inequality. Respondents considered “enhanced international cooperation and capacity building” and “improved quality of teaching and learning” to be the two most important benefits of internationalisation. Additionally, increases in the importance of internationalisation over the past three years have happened mainly at HEIs for which the level of importance is already high and there is a risk of growing inequality and gaps among HEIs in this regard.
